Botany Bay

We were fortunate enough to get a pre-visit to the new Botany Bay WMA before it opened. What a wonderful facility! It's 25 minutes from our house.
Here are just a couple of images from that day. I'll probably show more later.
A bee on agapanthus

Buckeye butterfly on seaside daisy There were lots of different habitats. Can you see all the bright red coral bean blooming in the undergrowth?
We walked about a half mile through marsh and original maritme forest to get to the front beach.
There were all sorts of wonderful shells to see. This is a jelly fish lying on oyster shells. Shell gathering on the beach by the public only in the first month open has become a problem. The people are disturbing nesting plovers and sea turtles. I'm going to a meeting this afternoon about how to control shell taking.

  2. Looks like a wonderful place! Next time I get to SC you will have to take us there. Too bad about the shell collectors. I guess signs and educational information are about all you can do to discourage it.....or a guard with an machine gun and a frown :-)
