Bird bath II

A second post today since I missed a few. Be sure to see the other one too below.

Much excitement at the feeder! A northern parula out in plain sight! We hear them all the time, but rarely see one. They are tiny and hide among the leaves of trees very well.

Then she came down to investigate the bird bath.

She did eventually get in but was very nervous about it and just did one quick flap/splash and dashed back into the fern.

It was a real thrill to get such good looks at such a seldom scene beautiful, although tiny, bird. A first for the bird bath for sure! These photos show a lot more when clicked to be larger.

Dueling bathers

One day while the painted bunting was eating seeds, he saw the bird bath was not in use.

So he went over and got in.

Suddenly a big cardinal arrived thinking he could take over the bath.

But the bunting wouldn't give ground.

Okay, watch this, says the cardinal!

Ha! That's nothing says the bunting!

Okay, you win says the cardinal sadly as he leaves.

The end!

Colorful birds for April 19 finally

Well, today the pictures went up easy as pie. I sure do wish we could load them in the order we want them rather than from the bottom up though.
Here is a scene that I never thought I'd see! The male painted bunting arriving in our area before the summer plumage goldfinch has left--this is the first year ever for that!
Click for a burst of color!

The painted bunting is colorful even when he's practically underwater!

But he would appreciate a little privacy in the bath!

The titmouse has already finished his bath.

Mrs. Cardinal watches with interest though.

The goldfinch wonders what's going on over there?

But this one didn't care.
