Deer in the mist stills

I tried twice this morning to get the rest of the deer in the mist photos up with no success. Then all of a sudden it worked again. These are not very clear, but I left them just as is, with no sharpening or trying to clear the mist because I love the atmospheric look. We don't get mist over the marsh very often--the temps of water and air have to be just right. And we don't see the deer in the morning very often either, so this was a treat.
The pix all look better clicked and enlarged.
I was sitting at my computer and glanced out the window and saw something different over the deck rails.
So I grabbed the camera and quietly went out on the deck. Comet was not as quiet so they sometimes looked up, but they know he can't leave his fenced yard. The big vine is a wild muscadine grape--I like the jungle-y effect if gives to things.
The deer were moving around and seemed at ease.
So I kept on taking pictures as the sun peeked through and made nice back lighting.
There were more than I thought!
Then they walked through the shallow low tide water and went across the creek.
But shortly after that they came back! But they went into our woods and out of sight.

  1. Wonderful! Don't you just LOVE the that light? When the sun is burning through the misty fog, there is no light more beautiful. Now add the deer! MAGIC!

  2. great pictures!
Deer are great to look at, but they are not so great when you have 2000 daylilies that they like to munch on!

  3. Thanks, Lin--yes this light is very special--it's not quite like fog since it's only above the water, but it's still lovely.

Oh, Greg! I bet the deer are a real menace to your growing plots! Do you use electric fences or anything to discourage them? They are so abundant here, it must be very challenging. I'm glad you could like the pix though anyway.

  4. Hi Bruce. Very nice- I agree with you that keeping the atmospheric look is best for the photos. It is neat to see the deer in a non-woodland habitat; ie, walking through the marsh.

  6. Really nice post! I love the atmosphere it has....so real and just "nature". I can "feel" what the day must have felt like. A very peaceful scene.
