The Grove Plantation

Yesterday, my son Carl and I took our cameras to The Grove Plantation, which is the headquarters for the ACE Basin, the largest reserve on the east coast.

This is the old original plantation house--about ten minutes from my house. This is the front which faces the river. We began our walk here and went out on the old former rice impoundment dikes, ending up walking nearly five miles.
We took tons of photos and I'm just showing a few close ups today. You'll see more detail by clicking to enlarge.

I didn't see the wasp until I downloaded. The blackberries were blooming all along the dikes and the bees were so happy. Most of the alligators we saw were not very big. This one was close enough to zoom in a bit.
There were literally thousands of fiddler crabs. Only a few lefties.
More birds and scenery perhaps tomorrow.

  1. Great shots...looks like a beautiful place to go. I'd say that aligator was plenty close :-) Love the white flowers and the wasp and bee are very detailed. Lefties? I would not have noticed!

  2. Beautiful pictures, Bruce. I'm amazed by all the wildlife you see. It's so nice that you're able to get out and enjoy it like this.

  3. Thanks, Mary and Lin. We are lucky to live near some nice unspoiled places. I tried to answer you yesterday, but gave up trying to get it to work--coudn't even post on my own blog! Hope they have it all straightened out now.
