Dear deer

We have a nice deer family in our yard. They are hidden most of the time, but come out to graze and nibble fairly often, usually in the early morning.
These were taken a couple of months ago when the family was just beginning. I think you can see here that this is definitely a nursing mother, but she had not brought her fawns out yet. We'll see them here later.
Here's mama eating highbush blueberries that we planted for the birds
And here she stops browsing to tend to an itch.

It kept bothering her--I liked this tricky pose.

Watch this space for the babies soon.

  5. Thanks, Angie and Rocky. I'm glad I've taken lots of pictures of them earlier since deer season opens a week from now. Too bad there's not a season on spam commenters too.

  6. Lovely post Bruce. Botany Bay looks wonderful too and I like Beartooth Mountain.

  7. Hate to say it Bruce, but if you'll enable word verification in the comments, you're less likely to get the spammers. It's a pain but when I was being barraged, it seemed to work.

Sweet, sweet mama! Can't wait to see her little ones. :c)

  8. How great to have the deer right there in your yard! I think we have some around, but I never see them. The photos are wonderful and I can't wait for the babies. She's really working on that itch! Makes you glad to have fingers, doesn't it?
